medical observational internships

Medical observational internships are done on a volunteer basis. Observational interns are not authorized to take part in any of the activities of the host institution. Observational interns, therefore, cannot perform medical, surgical, or technical act on patients during the internship, even under the supervision of members of the medical or nurse staff.

If you wish to apply for an unpaid medical observational internship at CHU de Nantes, the first step is to submit a description of the intended internship (start and end dates, educational objectives) to the head of department considered and obtain his written agreement. A presentation of CHU de Nantes Departments and contacts are available on thiswebsite.

In order to complete the application process and obtain the institutional agreement to undertake the internship, applicants must provide the medical affairs office with the documents listed below (email). These documents must be transmitted before the internship begins :
  1. a copy of the identity card ;  for non-European nationals, a copy of the passport visa and the "titre de séjour" if required by current regulation;
  2. copy of the medical diplomas; for medical students, a document from their university certifying that the applicant is enrolled in a medical education program;
  3. written agreement of the head of department hosting the applicant to the intended internship (start and end dates, research or teaching project);
  4. Proof of liability insurance which covers the insured against bodily injury or property damage caused to a third party by direct or indirect actions of the insured;
  5. Medical examination report certifying that the applicant has no physical or psychiatric condition which could prevent him/her from doing his/her internship;
  6. Medical report certifying that the applicant has received BCG, hepatitis B, and DT Polio vaccination.
